Adventures In Travel & Business

I have been writing about how to research for finding the very best online business. So far my research has always paid off. But sometimes no matter how careful I am I still get stung.

The other day I had a 6:00 p.m. telephone conference with a company that I just started up with. They were supposed to be calling for some one on one mentoring. I was fully expecting them to teach my wife and I better ways of getting my business up and running and I was looking forward to learning more information to start making some serious money.

When the guy called he started talking about the company. I won’t give their name yet unless they haven’t given me a refund - and if they don’t look out, I will write a scathing blog about them and pursue getting my money back directly. That truly is the beauty of a blog. It really gives you some power to fight back. I know that the last thing this company wants is scathing reviews going out to thousands of readers every month. Like I said I won’t give their name out but part of it is “The work at home_” and the last word rhymes with billionaire.

Well when the man started talking to us we were expecting some good teaching on how to market their products. Instead he said that what we needed to do was buy $15,000 worth of their products(!!!) and then we would have thirty days to sell them to make our money back and a good profit to boot.  He called this O.P.M. or other peoples money and said that banks do it all the time.

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. This guy wanted us to charge $15,000 of their product at our expense and at out risk on the hope that we would be able to sell enough of their product to be able to pay off the credit card in thirty days. Well let me tell you something fifteen thousand dollars buy a lot of e-books and the chance of out selling then all before thirty day was up was probably almost impossible.

Upon hearing this, my wife who is and accountant laughed and got up and left the room. What a load of B.S. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I asked the guy if he was serious and he said absolutely. I said do you think that we could sell that much product in less than thirty days and he said  yes. Well at this point I knew I was dealing with a scam artist. I fully intend on asking for a refund today. They said they have a 100% money back guarantee if you are not completely satisfied. And I can tell you that we are not at all satisfied. If they don’t give us our money back I will write a scathing blog about them to say just what I think about them.

Hmmmm

Maybe I should start a web sit reviewing online businesses. I wonder if there is any money in that?

Well anyway. I just wanted to write this blog about what happened just to let everyone out there know that you can never be too careful even when you do your home work and research a company you can still get burned. Oh well live and learn I’ll just have to be even more careful the next time.

Wow, that is incredibly brazen of that person to tell you - that you could/should sell that much in 30 days. Some people are unbelievable. I’m glad you were able to get out before you got stiffed for even more money.

What an idiot to tell you that! I hope you get your refund back. I would be highly interested in who it is! So I await your next post!

I do hope you get your refund. And yes, please tell the whole blogosphere about unscrupulous people like them if you don’t get your refund. Good luck!

You have to beware of those business opportunities that want you to load up on their product right away. If it’s a good business opp you should not have to purchase a bunch of their products. You are supposed to be selling the product to others, not to yourself.
Good for you for being wise and getting out of the situation.

A site reviewing online businesses would be awesome! Don’t know whether you’d made any money, but I’d subscribe to it.

I’ll also be watching to see what you’d bought into and whether or not you actually get a refund.

With regard to a site reviewing online businesses, there are lots of those out there, but two of the best ones are RipOffReport.com and FIB’s Scams 101.

OMG that is so frightening. This is why I am so very leery of these companies. As much as I’d love to try them out, I just don’t have the patience to find the actual good ones!

Scams are scams and all those make a zillion dollars at home offers are just that, scams.

The golden rule of making money…if you find a way to make lots of money, keep it to yourself.

For everyone else…make money telling everyone else what they already know.

Make sure you get your refund!

If that company can sell all the products in 30days, they don’t need affiliates.

They can just appoint one telemarketing girl to sell the product.

    I smell rip-off scam.

If you want any help getting a site up and running that is dedicated to bringing down the owners of this scam, just let me know. I enjoy a good flogging from time to time.

I have always been on the lookout for a good home business opp since I am a wife and mom and I like to travel and have my own schedule. I have done so much research on some of these online businesses and I always run into a red flag. I love reading blogs about other people’s experiences because I have come to trust my fellow bloggers.
I was recently introduced to the MonaVie business and I advertise it on my site. I was brought into the business by a trusted friend and I have not been disappointed. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a new business opp, not to mention a great product. You are in no way obligated to buy this product, but you will want to after trying it. You can learn more by clicking the ad on my website.
You were very smart not to invest the $15,000.00. Good Luck!

Hi Annie, Thank you for your comments. Yes I do like Mona Vie. It spread through my church last year and made a lot of people vast amounts of money. Several people including out Pastor became very wealthy through Mona Vie. I keep waiting for it to lose it’s momentum like so many MLM’s eventually do but so far they are still going strong. Good luck in your venture.

Hi wayne, hey I will take you up on helping me flog a scam artist or two. Appreciate the help for real. Thanks Marc.

Hey Chris, you are right about one thing scams are scams. I didn’t let this guy scam me though, and I wasn’t stupid enough to give him $15,000 dollars either. But I did get my refund back.

  15. by Marc Silvis, on September 5 2008 @ 1:54 pm

You know I think I will check into reviewing online businesses. The only problem I can see is that you must try everything out. That would take a lot of time I think.

  16. by Marc Silvis, on September 5 2008 @ 1:56 pm

Yes it is kind of unnerving starting with a new business. But I keep researching and one day hopefully I will find the right one. Like I told my wife, you never know unless you try. Thanks Paula.

I would be very interested in finding out who they are. This is a scam and I can not believe that people actually fall for it. Yes, a refund is in order.

You would be BRILLIANT at a review blog! I had to let someone cry on my shoulder just the other day who fell for an e-book scam. The poor thing just didn’t understand why “the secret” they were peddeling was just a scam to sell more of their books.

That sounds awful. There are so many of these companies out there. I’m sure you’ll find something that works!
